  1. Installation
  2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~

  4. Firstly, unzip the four files labelled disk1.zip, disk2.zip,
  5. disk3.zip and disk4.zip into separate directories.
  6. (e.g. c:\disk1, c:\disk2, c:\disk3, c:\disk4).
  7.  
  8. Then prepare four clean formatted diskettes labelled disk1,
  9. disk2, disk3 and disk4. Copy the contents of each relevant
  10. directory to each diskette.
  11.  
  12. Install the program from the first diskette as described below.
  13.

  16. StationMaster requires a PC running either DOS 5 (or later)
  17. and Windows 3.1 (or later), or Windows 95.
  18.  
  19. Windows 3.x Users - First check that your PC has the following 
  20. entries in CONFIG.SYS:
  21.  
  22.     FILES=40        (minimum)
  23.     BUFFERS=20        (minimum)
  24.     STACKS=9,256        (minimum)
  25.  
  26. and that you have SmartDrive running.  Ensure also that Windows 
  27. is configured for optimum performance i.e. with the appropriate
  28. size of swap file (preferably  set to æpermanentÆ), and in a 
  29. video mode of at least VGA 640 x 480 and 256 colours.

  31. All Users - Check that all serial ports that you intend to use 
  32. with StationMaster have been correctly defined in the Windows 
  33. æPortsÆ section for interrupts (IRQ), I/O addresses, baud rate 
  34. and flow control.
  35.  
  36. NB Before installing please ensure that no other programmes are 
  37. running - this includes Microsoft Office Toolbar and anti-virus 
  38. software, then insert Disk 1 of StationMaster into the floppy 
  39. drive. From the Windows program manager (or the Windows 95 Start menu) 
  40. choose  æRunÆ.  Type æA:\SETUPÆ and click æOKÆ. Follow the screen 
  41. prompts.

  43. This will result in the installation of the software in demonstration 
  44. mode; this mode  offers full functionality but only allows the user 
  45. to enter up to 100 QSOs.  If you import an existing log with more 
  46. than 100 QSOs into StationMaster, you will be able to explore all of 
  47. the programmesÆs features but not add any further QSOs.

  49. Click on the StationMaster icon to start the programme.  When the 
  50. StationMaster screen is established, carry out the following preliminary 
  51. tasks in order:

  53. 1) From the File Menu select Setup.  Enter the details for your TNC and 
  54. DX Cluster, Radio (if fitted with CAT), your choice of ports for 
  55. voice/CW keyers, CDROM callbook and preferred back-up utility.  
  56. NB - remember to Apply your choices.

  58. 2) From the File Menu select New Log and name your log accordingly, 
  59. e.g. yourcall.mdb
  60.  
  61. 3) From the Preferences Menu select Station and enter your personal 
  62. station data.  Then select Log Entry, Grid Layout and Field Sources as 
  63. required, remembering to Apply your choices before exiting each screen.
